The Coastal GasLink pipeline is mechanically complete, ahead of the year-end schedule.
TC Energy says it marks the end of the project’s five-year construction phase, during which time ‘’workers, contractors, Indigenous and local communities collaborated to complete Canada’s first pipeline to the west coast in 70 years.’’
While construction is complete, work continues in the form of reclamation, which will be followed by a five-year post-construction monitoring program, to ensure that reclamation efforts are successful.
Through the remainder of 2023, TC Energy will complete commission activities to be ready to deliver commissioning gas to the LNG Canada facility by year end.
Original cost estimates of the pipeline were $6.2 billion, but that climbed to $14.5 billion in the most recent price tag released by TC Energy earlier this year.
