The campfire ban issued in July for the Coastal Fire Centre is being lifted at Noon today.
Thanks to cooler temperatures and some rain lowering the fire danger, Campbell River and Comox Valley residents can again have fires in the backyard.
Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited until October 31st, including the use of fireworks, sky lanterns, binary exploding targets, burn barrels, burn cages and air curtain burners.
Recreational fires are for cooking or providing heat and must be in a permanent outdoor fireplace or fire pit not larger than 60 centimetres (24 inches) in diameter, with a fire extinguisher or hose needing to be close by.
Beach fires should be below the high-tide line as fires are not allowed on public land, or on private property other than your own.
Although the fire danger is reduced due to cooler temperatures and increased moisture, Campbell River residents are asked to remain vigilant when burning and reminded that open fires remain prohibited, including the use of fireworks.
