The federal Liberals have secured a majority government following yesterday’s byelections, winning all three contested seats in Ontario and Quebec.
Preliminary results show Liberal candidates captured all three ridings.
The wins push the governing party above the threshold needed for a majority in the House of Commons, giving Prime Minister Mark Carney enough seats to pass legislation without relying on opposition support.
The Liberals now hold 174 seats, clearing the 172 required for a majority.
