From nearly shutting down to earning international recognition, Campbell River Crime Stoppers has been honoured with the 2025 Community Engagement and Awareness Award from Crime Stoppers International.
The award celebrates the program’s revitalization over the past two years after struggling to survive during and after the pandemic.
Crime Stoppers International commended the Campbell River team for modernizing its messaging, strengthening community partnerships, and using social media to boost engagement, leading to a 28 percent increase in anonymous tips.
Program President Anais Barnes says the award is a win for the entire region, showing how small communities can make a global impact.
Program Coordinator Graeme Duffy credits volunteers, board members, and local supporters for helping rebuild the initiative from the ground up.
The Campbell River program now stands alongside international counterparts from the U.K., Australia, and Guatemala.
