The number of people who donate regularly has dropped by 31-thousand during the pandemic, leaving it with the smallest donor base in a decade
Canadian Blood Services is facing a crunch, saying it only has a few days worth of O-positive blood-type supply as it calls for donors to book
appointments. As well, the organization said yesterday it had only about a week's supply left of A-positive and B-positive.
CBS says there are 57-thousand open appointments that need to be filled before the end of August across the country, to ensure blood products are
available for all Canadians. The number of people who donate regularly has dropped by 31-thousand during the pandemic, leaving it with the smallest donor base in a decade. Appointments have also slowed more in the last month, after Canadian Blood Services dropped its mandatory masking policy for donors in July.
The Campbell River Community Hall is hosting a donor clinic tomorrow (Wednesday, August 10, 2022).
