BC Hydro has unveiled its most powerful electric vehicle fast chargers to date at a new charging hub in Nanaimo, marking the first 400-kilowatt public chargers on Vancouver Island.
The hub is located in the parking lot of Rock City Centre on Island Highway and includes two 400-kilowatt chargers and two 180-kilowatt chargers.
The 400 kilowatt units can add up to 100 kilometres of driving range in about three minutes.
"This new electric vehicle charge hub in Nanaimo continues our work with BC Hydro and other partners to make cleaner options more accessible and affordable for all British Columbians," said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions.
"With more than 800 BC Hydro charging ports now available in communities throughout B.C., we are building a public charging network that's ready to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles and will support economic growth in our province."
All four chargers feature power sharing, allowing up to eight vehicles to charge at the same time.
More 400-kilowatt chargers are planned for other locations across the province this year as EV adoption continues to grow, with more than 220-thousand electric vehicles now on the road in British Columbia.
