BC Hydro is testing its public warning siren system along the Campbell River today, Thursday, January 29.
Sirens may sound multiple times between about 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at locations from the John Hart Dam to Second Island as part of routine river safety system checks.
Temporary signage has been posted along the river to let people know this is a scheduled test and not an emergency.
When the sirens are used during real events, BC Hydro says they indicate a sudden rise in river flows and people should move out of the river channel immediately.
According to BC Hydro, regular testing is needed to ensure the system at the John Hart facility is working properly and will function as intended in an emergency going forward.
