BC Ferries is reducing the minimum top-up for vehicle Experience Cards to give customers more flexibility.
Beginning April 15, the minimum online reload will drop to $100, down from $130, on routes where the program applies.
The change comes after feedback from customers who said the current minimum can be a significant upfront cost, especially for frequent travellers.
BC Ferries says lowering the online and kiosk minimum helps reduce that barrier while encouraging customers to reload ahead of travel, which can help ease congestion at busy terminals.
The minimum for in-person vehicle top-ups at terminals will remain $130, while the passenger-only minimum stays at $50.
BC Ferries says the change does not affect fares or the savings structure associated with the Experience Card.
Customers will also be able to reload cards at terminal kiosks with the new $100 minimum. Kiosks are available at Tsawwassen, Swartz Bay,
Departure Bay, Duke Point, Horseshoe Bay and Campbell River.
The Experience Card program allows customers to pre-purchase trips at discounted rates and is mainly used on ferry-dependent minor routes that do not offer advance reservation.
