British Columbia and the federal government have signed what they're calling a landmark agreement aimed at supporting major infrastructure, clean energy, and economic growth across the province.
Premier David Eby says the new Canada-British Columbia Cooperative Prosperity Agreement includes billions of dollars in federal funding for projects.
“This agreement is about building B.C.’s future – not just for this year, but for generations to come. It means more good jobs for workers and more opportunities to train for better pay, all while protecting the beautiful places that make our province so remarkable,” said Premier Eby.
“This deal will deliver faster commutes as we build critical infrastructure, less pollution as we power growth with clean electricity, and the kind of shared prosperity that funds strong public services. I want to thank the Prime Minister for recognizing the key role B.C. is playing in building a stronger, more independent Canada.”
The agreement also includes commitments to workforce training, child care, and trade infrastructure, while providing additional support for B.C.'s forestry and steel sectors as they deal with U.S. tariffs.
The province says the deal also protects the North Coast oil tanker ban and confirms it will remain in place without changes.
The agreement also says British Columbia would receive compensation for environmental risk if the federal government were to impose a pipeline project on the province.
The province says the agreement does not require B.C. to support Alberta's proposed west coast oil pipeline.
The provincial government says the agreement is expected to support major investment decisions over the next three years while helping create jobs and strengthen public services across British Columbia.
