The Rotary Club of Comox is thanking the community after another strong turnout for its annual shredding event.
The club’s 4th annual Drive-thru Shredding Day was held on the weekend at North Island College, where residents and businesses dropped off confidential documents for secure disposal.
Organizers say more than 16 thousand pounds of paper were shredded and recycled during the event.
That effort is estimated to have saved about 138 mature trees, while also helping reduce the risk of identity theft by ensuring sensitive information was properly destroyed.
Rotary Club of Comox President Keith Gibson says the continued growth of the event highlights what can be achieved when the community works together toward a shared goal.
The club is also recognizing volunteers, partners, and North Island College staff for helping the event run safely and efficiently.
Money raised through the shredding day will go toward local community projects and initiatives across the Comox Valley.
Organizers say they hope to see even more participation when the event returns next year.
