Some Hornby Island residents will soon be moving into new affordable rental housing.
The province says 26 new homes are opening at Beulah Creek Village on Central Road, helping address the island’s ongoing shortage of affordable housing.
The development includes studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units spread across three buildings designed to reflect a rural village setting.
The homes will be prioritized for local families, seniors, individuals with low-to-moderate incomes, and members of K’ómoks First Nation.
“Island communities feel the impact of seasonal and short-term housing demand,” said Christine Boyle, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs.
“Through our Community Housing Fund, these new affordable homes will create many opportunities for residents to stay close to their jobs, live in the community they call home, and keep Hornby Island a living, working community year-round.”.
Residents are expected to begin moving into the homes later this month.
The project was funded through the province’s Community Housing Fund and is part of the provincial government’s broader housing investment strategy.
