Comox residents may see and hear military helicopters and vessels today as the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command continues routine training in the area.
The exercises began Tuesday, October 20, and continue Wednesday, October 21, with training scheduled between 2 p.m. and 1 a.m. overnight. Wednesday’s training window therefore extends into the early hours of Thursday, October 22.
Up to three CH-146 Griffon helicopters, along with vessels, are expected to participate. Residents may notice activity during the afternoon, evening and overnight portions of the training period.
The command says it will work to limit the impact on people living nearby.
“All efforts will be made to minimize disruption to the surrounding communities,” the training notice states.
The Canadian Special Operations Forces Command also thanked local residents for their support and understanding, describing the training as valuable.
Known as CANSOFCOM, the command is a high-readiness organization that provides special operations forces to protect Canadians from threats at home and abroad. It can deploy personnel on short notice on behalf of the federal government.
