Residents of the Outer Discovery Islands and Quadra Island have two opportunities Wednesday and Thursday to help shape the new Electoral Area C Official Community Plan.
The Strathcona Regional District is inviting residents to review draft objectives and policies, see how earlier community feedback has been incorporated, and identify where adjustments may still be needed.
A community meeting for the Outer Discovery Islands takes place Wednesday, October 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Surge Narrows Bunkhouse. The discussion begins at 1 p.m.
On Thursday, October 22, the Quadra Island Library will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents can drop in anytime during those hours to learn more and provide feedback.
The events are part of the regional district’s ongoing work to develop a plan reflecting the priorities and vision of Area C communities. An Official Community Plan establishes long-term goals and guides decisions about land use, housing, development, environmental protection and community services.
Community engagement began in fall 2024 and has included meetings, focus groups, community discussions and opportunities for residents in remote areas to contribute through consultation workbooks.
The current “Early Directions” represent draft objectives and policy statements developed from that input. The regional district is now asking residents whether those directions accurately reflect what they have heard.
“Your responses to this survey will confirm what we’ve gotten right and help us ‘course correct’ what we haven’t,” the district explains on its project page.
Anyone unable to attend the events can participate through the Area C OCP Early Directions Survey, which remains open until December 11, 2026.
The survey covers nine themes, including housing, land use, economic development, coastal planning, transportation, forestry, environmental protection, parks and trails, and water and waste. Residents are asked to review the proposed directions for each theme before answering the related questions.
More information, draft policy content and the survey are available at Strathcona Regional District.
