An update from Cumberland on the flooding situation in the village.

The Coal Creek Historic Park Disc Golf Course and select trails in the Cumberland Community Forest Park remain closed due to flood damage.

Crews have completed initial damage assessments in the Perseverance Creek area of the Cumberland Community Forest and Coal Creek Historic Park.

The Coal Creek Historic Park Disc Golf Course remains closed, in addition to a couple of trails

in the Cumberland Community Forest (Hai Gai Access Trail and Perseverance Creek Bridge - accessed from Chinatown connecting to Coal Creek Trail, DCDH, and Knuckers - and Hai Gai Trail).

In particular, extensive damage has occurred to the Perseverance Creek Bridge and its trail approaching the Cumberland Community Forest Park.

The Village has begun recovery discussions with community partner organizations – UROC and the Cumberland Community Forest Society – but given the location of the bridge in the Perseverance Creek Floodplain, recovery planning and response is expected to take time.

Crews continue to assess trails in the Cumberland Community Forest and trails beyond, in coordination with the United Riders of Cumberland.

Residents are encouraged to obey all park and trail closures and to stay away from fast moving creeks.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
