Construction continues to roll along on Courtenay’s new 6th Street Active Transportation Bridge.
The span of the bridge is now complete, with crews installing the final frame sections over the Family Day weekend, connecting the east and west sides of the Courtenay River.
The City says it's an important step for the critical downtown infrastructure that will improve community gathering spaces, accessibility and connectivity.
Those sections were built off-site, shipped to the work area and lifted into place by crane.
With the span now connected, the City said in a social media post there's still lots of work to do on the bridge deck, and on both sides to complete the approaches, but the project is going well and remains on schedule.
