The Strathcona Regional District is gathering community input to help shape the future of animal control services in Area D.
As part of efforts to reduce costs, the SRD is exploring the possibility of delivering services in-house.
This could include dog licensing, addressing aggressive or nuisance behaviour, kenneling, and ticketing.
The district explains that the Area D Animal Control Service has been contracted to the City of Campbell River and, up until 2025, was subcontracted by the City to Coastal Animal Control.
Over the past 3 years, the SRD says it has seen a steady increase in costs for the service, especially for 2025 when the City ceased subcontracting to Coastal Animal Control.
There is a survey up at Strathcona Regional District.
It will be live until April 24th.
