Greenways Land Trust will celebrate three decades of environmental stewardship in Campbell River with a special evening of food, storytelling and fundraising later this month.
The organization’s 30th birthday celebration will be held Tuesday, November 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Campbell River’s Eagles Hall.
Award-winning writer and environmentalist Briony Penn will serve as the evening’s guest speaker. Penn uses writing, art and humour to connect people with the Salish Sea and the natural world.
She will discuss her upcoming book, “The Seabird Trials: How a Scientist Took Big Oil to Court and Won,” which examines a scientist’s successful legal battle against the oil industry.
The celebration will also include dinner prepared by Eagles Hall staff, birthday cake, trivia and the unveiling of a new Greenways Land Trust promotional video.
A 50-50 draw and prize raffle will support the organization’s fundraising goals for the year.
The raffle basket includes a four-hour whale-watching tour with Homalco Cultural and Wildlife Tours, two scuba-diving vouchers, a native woodland planter and locally dried fruit.
Tickets cost $50 and include dinner. Greenways donors, members and volunteers can purchase discounted tickets for $40.
Tickets are available Growing Together | Greenways' 30th Birthday Fundraiser.
