Campbell River residents may notice an increased emergency response presence at the city’s airport today, but officials say there is no cause for concern.
The City of Campbell River is conducting a planned emergency training exercise at the Campbell River Airport until 4:30 p.m.
The exercise involves airport personnel, employees from other City departments, emergency responders and representatives from partner agencies.
Participants are practising a coordinated response to a simulated emergency.
People in the area may see emergency vehicles and personnel or notice other realistic response activities in and around the airport throughout the day.
The City stresses that there is no actual emergency and no risk to the public.
Access to the exercise areas is restricted to authorized personnel.
The City of Campbell River asks members of the public and media to avoid those locations, respect posted signage and follow directions from crews on site.
The exercise is required as part of the airport’s Transport Canada certification and is being funded through the Union of BC Municipalities.
Regular operations at the Campbell River Airport are expected to continue without disruption.
