Comox Valley RCMP say a report of a possible weapon at a school in Black Creek earlier this week was quickly investigated and determined to be unfounded.
Police say they responded Monday, April 13, after receiving information about a possible weapon and associated threats. School staff placed the building into hold and secure while officers attended.
Frontline officers, including Police Dog Services, arrived quickly and worked with school officials to assess the situation. RCMP say investigators determined the circumstances were not as originally reported.
No weapon was located and no threat to students or staff could be substantiated.
Once officers confirmed there was no risk, the hold and secure was lifted.
Constable Monika Terragni says reports involving potential violence in schools are always treated as urgent. She says in this case the information was quickly investigated and the systems in place worked as intended, with school staff and police acting quickly to ensure safety.
RCMP also say information circulating on social media does not reflect what occurred and may unintentionally create confusion or concern.
Police note that while families often want detailed information, there are limits on what can be shared, particularly when youth are involved.
The privacy of young people is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which prohibits the release of any information that could identify them.
Police add they continue to work closely with School District staff to assess any reports of threats or violence and determine appropriate responses to keep students and staff safe.
