Drivers and pedestrians in Comox are being advised of a full road closure on McKenzie Avenue today as municipal crews complete a water-line repair.

The closure is in place near 2283 McKenzie Avenue and is expected to remain in effect until 5 p.m.

Traffic will not be permitted through the active work zone, and motorists are being asked to choose an alternate route and allow additional travel time.

Pedestrians will still be able to move through the area but will be directed around the closure using a newly marked temporary route.

Emergency vehicles will retain access to the surrounding neighbourhood throughout the project. Responders will enter McKenzie Avenue from either Davis Street or Aitken Street when required.

Drivers and pedestrians travelling near the construction area should watch for changing traffic conditions, follow all posted signs and obey directions from traffic-control personnel.

The Town expects the road to reopen after crews complete the repair later this afternoon.

Anyone with questions about the work can contact the Town of Comox Public Works Department by calling 250-339-5410 or emailing publicworks@comox.ca.
