A boat fire at the Newcastle Marina in Nanaimo has left one person in hospital with burns to at least 50 percent of his body.
Fire Rescue crews were alerted to the situation in the 1200 block of Stewart Ave., just after 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 14 and a big plume of black smoke was quickly visible from the area. Both boats were fully involved in fire when crews arrived.
One boat was badly damaged and another sunk.
The investigation into the blaze continues. The Nanaimo Port Authority is looking into any environmental ramifications from the sunken vessel.
