A major redevelopment project is moving ahead at Gorge Harbour Marina Resort on Cortes Island.

Qathen Xwegus Management Corporation says it has secured $1 million in funding through the Province of B.C.’s Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program.

The funding will go toward rebuilding the resort’s restaurant, creating a modern dining space focused on local food, community use, and improving the visitor experience.

Gorge Harbour has long been a gathering place for boaters, visitors, and residents dating back to the late 1960s.

The redevelopment aims to restore that role while helping attract more visitors and extend the tourism season on Cortes Island.

The project is being led by Klahoose First Nation through its economic development arm. Leaders say the redevelopment will create local jobs, support tourism in the region, and strengthen economic opportunities within Klahoose Territory.

Plans for the new restaurant include a space for dining, community gatherings, and events, with a focus on showcasing coastal food and the surrounding environment.

Construction is expected to bring employment opportunities, particularly during the busy summer months, with positions in kitchen, service, and management roles.

Officials say the project will also support nearby businesses and help position Gorge Harbour Marina Resort as a more active, year-round destination.

The redevelopment is part of a broader effort to grow tourism across Klahoose-owned properties, including Klahoose Wilderness Resort.

The province says the REDIP program is designed to support economic growth, infrastructure, and job creation in rural and Indigenous communities across British Columbia.
