The City of Campbell River has bought a piece of land on Dogwood Street aimed at supporting future growth and development.
The City has acquired a vacant property at 251 Dogwood Street, property previously owned by the Campbell River Curling Club.
Officials say the site is centrally located, already well-serviced, and zoned for higher-density, mixed-use development.
While there are no immediate plans for the land, the purchase is being described as a long-term investment to help meet future housing and planning needs.
The sale was finalized in February and is expected to provide added financial stability for the club moving forward, while still maintaining parking access on the Cedar Street side.
The City paid just over $1 million for the property, with funding coming from its Capital Lending Reserve, to be repaid through other reserve funds and housing-related programs.
The City says the acquisition supports ongoing efforts to encourage transit-oriented development along Dogwood Street, which currently sees the highest transit ridership in Campbell River.
Recent zoning changes in the corridor already allow for increased density and building heights, as the City looks to prepare for continued growth.
