Campbell River Council has adopted the City’s Master Transportation Plan.

The MTP considers the future transportation needs of the community.

It provides recommendations for improvements that support walking, cycling, transit and vehicle infrastructure and policy over the next 10 years.

As a living document, the MTP will be regularly revisited and adjusted to maintain alignment with evolving community priorities.

The City will begin implementation of short-term actions while maintaining flexibility to adapt the plan as community and Council priorities evolve.

Highlights of the plan include recommendations for improvements and added infrastructure for roads, sidewalks, cycling, multi-use pathways, transit and supportive policies and programs.

Short-term plans include road improvements like a Quinsam Heights transportation study, a feasibility study for a new Highway 19 connection, updated signal timing on Dogwood Street, and safety upgrades at the Highway 19A and Shoppers Row intersection.

Plans also call for better multi-use pathway markings at intersections, along with new sidewalks on 16th, 7th, and Erickson, plus added pedestrian connections to improve access to downtown and the waterfront.

Cycling and pathway work will include safety improvements along Hilchey Road, completion of the Birch Street bikeway, and new neighbourhood routes, alongside broader updates to truck routes, traffic policies, school travel programs, zoning for bike parking, and both off-street and downtown parking strategies.
