Ferry service between Heriot Bay on Quadra Island and Whaletown on Cortes Island will be suspended for a few weeks next month as terminal upgrade work enters its final phase.
From February 9th to March 1st, 2026, the Whaletown terminal will be fully closed to allow crews to complete remaining construction work.
The closure is part of ongoing upgrades at both terminals to prepare for the introduction of an Island Class vessel this summer.
During the closure, regular ferry sailings between the two communities will not operate. Instead, a 40-passenger water taxi will run between Mansons Landing on Cortes Island and the Heriot Bay Government Dock on Quadra Island.
BC Ferries says water-taxi tickets will be provided free of charge and can be picked up at the Heriot Bay Government Dock.
A complimentary shuttle service will also be available between Quathiaski Cove and Heriot Bay to help connect passengers with onward travel.
Terminal staff will be on site throughout the closure to assist customers and provide directions to loading areas on both islands.
BC Ferries notes that no other service disruptions are expected before February, although nearby residents may continue to notice daytime construction noise as work continues.
The terminal upgrades began last May and are scheduled to wrap up in March.
