With B.C.’s local-government and provincial elections taking place one week apart, voters across Campbell River and the Comox Valley have several important dates to keep straight.
The final day of advance voting for the local-government elections is Wednesday, with polls open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Campbell River residents can vote at the Sportsplex, while Courtenay voters can cast their ballots at the Florence Filberg Centre.
Comox residents can vote at the Comox Community Centre, and Cumberland’s advance poll will be held at the Cultural Centre.
Comox Valley RD voters can also cast advance ballots at the Regional District Civic Room on Harmston Avenue in Courtenay.
General voting day for the local-government elections is Saturday, October 17.
Provincial advance voting begins Friday, October 16, and continues through Wednesday, October 21. That means voters could cast ballots in both elections on Saturday.
The Coast Discovery Inn in Campbell River and the former Leeward Liquor Store on Anderton Road in Comox will be open throughout the provincial advance-voting period from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Other locations will operate on selected days.
Provincial voters can use any advance-voting location in B.C., but should check their 'Where to Vote' card or Elections BC before leaving home.
Two local provincial candidate events are also planned this week.
The Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Courtenay–Comox forum runs Thursday from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at North Island College’s Stan Hagen Theatre.
The discussion will focus on business and economic development.
All four North Island candidates are scheduled to debate Friday at Campbell River’s Tidemark Theatre.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the debate running from 7 until 9.
Admission is free, and a livestream will be available at Tidemark Theatre.
Final voting day for the provincial election is Saturday, October 24.
