Wildfires in our area continue to burn.
The new wildfire burning near Sayward continues to grow.
It’s nearly doubled in size to almost 2 hectares since first being spotted on Monday afternoon and is still listed as out of control.
Still, no structures are being threatened but the smoke can be seen from the community.
Meanwhile, a fire on the weekend near Courtenay didn’t have a chance to spread after a group of campers pitched in to douse the flames.
It was sparked on Canada Day near the Buttle Lake campground.
Campers - a couple dozen of them at least - grabbed containers and started running back and forth dumping water in the flames.
The group kept working for about two hours before a BC Wildfire Service helicopter arrived to finish things off.
