What To Do With Those Old Pumpkins

Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 7:57 AM

By Jay Herrington

Wondering what to do with those old pumpkins?

The easiest way, according to city, town and village officials, is to place them in your waste or compost container - or even a brown bag - for pick up.

The Village of Cumberland, for example, reminds residents that placing the pumpkin directly on the ground is difficult for collectors to pick up by hand. They also suggest keeping your pumpkins inside until ready to be picked up, to help keep the bears away.

Another great - and FUN - option --- holding on to your pumpkin until this weekend -- and watch it drop.

The 2022  Annual Pumpkin Smash is happening this Saturday.

Campbell River Firefighters will drop your pumpkin from their tower truck, 100 ft up, before it's taken away for composting.

The Pumpkin Smash happens from 10am to 2pm Saturday at Strathcona Gardens.
