The Wesley Ridge Wildfire is no longer listed as Out of Control.

In an update yesterday, BC Wildfire Service said the fire is now categorized as Being Held.

That means the fire is projected, based on fuel and weather conditions and resource availability, to remain within the current perimeter, control line or boundary.

It’s currently at about 588 hectares, burning north of Cameron Lake.

BC Wildfire Service says the fire has been displaying mostly what they call Rank 1 fire behaviour, which is a smouldering ground fire with no open flame.

The Service says the blaze, burning about 60 kilometres northwest of Nanaimo, is not expected to grow beyond its existing containment lines.

There were isolated pockets of Rank 2, which is a low-vigour surface fire with some visible flame and Rank 3, which is a moderately vigorous surface fire with visible flame.
