The Wesley Creek wildfire, in addition to being out of control, is now a Fire of Note.

If a wildfire is especially visible or poses a threat to public safety, BC Fire Services classifies it as a "Wildfire of Note" and provides detailed updates on it as information becomes available.

The fire, north of Cameron Lake and still over 500 hectares in size, is believed to be human caused, and was discovered around midnight Thursday.

The City of Nanaimo has issued additional evacuation alerts, to go along with evacuation orders which are also in place in some areas of Nanaimo and its surrounds.

An evacuation order requires residents to leave immediately.

Highway 4 remains open, but the B.C. Ministry of Transportation has warned travellers between Parksville and Port Alberni to be mindful of "potential sudden changes" that could cause delays.

Traffic personnel are in place to respond if a change or interruption to the flow of traffic on the highway is needed by the B.C. Wildfire Service as it battles the Wesley Creek blaze.
