The snowfall warning for east Vancouver Island is still in effect - it’s mainly focusing on inland areas now where another few cms is possible, as the rest switches over to rain.

Due to unsafe road conditions, all SD72 (Campbell River) schools and district programs, including child care centres, are CLOSED today, January 19 2024.

Evening events or facility rentals are also cancelled.

Groups that had reserved the use of one of our facilities should contact the school board office to reschedule and receive a refund.

All Comox Valley Schools will be closed today (Friday, January 19). With continuous snow falling through the night, many roads and sidewalks in the district are not cleared safe for travel.

This decision is made with the safety of our students, staff, and community as our top priority.

NIC campuses in Campbell River, the Comox Valley & Port Alberni are also closed due to weather warnings and winter conditions.

All classes, including digital, are cancelled.

Also, Comox Valley Children’s Day Care Society and all daycare sites for the CVCDCS will be closed today.

That includes Lighthouse in Courtney and Aspen Grove and Tigger Too in Comox.

It’ll be a busy day for local crews getting the roads cleared up.

A reminder, if possible, to keep your vehicles off the roads so plows can do their thing - and make sure the storm grates are clear in front of your property to prevent any flooding.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
