The Village of Tahsis is taking another step toward future residential development, with a major environmental investigation getting underway next week.

From September 14th through the 18th, crews will be working within municipal road allowances to study historical hogfuel, or wood waste, deposits beneath parts of the community.

The work will include drilling boreholes, collecting soil and groundwater samples, and installing monitoring equipment. Nearby property owners will receive advance notice, and the Village says no work will take place on private property without the owner's permission.

Drivers should also expect temporary road closures on Wednesday and Thursday, September 16th and 17th, affecting Alpine View, North Maquinna, Head Bay Road and Strange Road.

Officials say the findings will support the Village's application for provincial approval, which could help reduce regulatory hurdles and make it easier for future residential development to move forward in Tahsis.
