The Village of Cumberland says an audit conducted last year by Recycle BC showed significant contamination in the Village’s curbside recycling.
Contamination includes non-recyclable, non-curbside and soiled materials in your recycling container.
The Village says it is taking a proactive approach to reducing contamination.
During the month of March any containers with contamination materials will receive an ‘Oops Recycle Reminder’ sticker but will still be collected.
Beginning in April, any bins still containing contamination will be left uncollected with an explanatory notice attached.
Uncollected items will be picked up the following collection cycle.
The Village suggests residents download the Waste Wise App for a complete list of items accepted in curbside containers.
