The Village of Cumberland is into the consultant phase as it looks to access cash through a new fund aimed at increasing the local housing supply.

The Housing Accelerator Fund provides incentive funding to local governments encouraging initiatives aimed at increasing housing supply.

It also supports the development of complete, low-carbon and climate-resilient communities that are affordable, inclusive, equitable and diverse.

Local governments in Canada with delegated authority over land use planning and development approvals, including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit governments, can apply for the funding.

Regional districts, provinces or territories are eligible to apply if there isn’t a municipal-level authority.

Cumberland has put the call out for someone to put a proposal together.

The CMHC is putting a deadline on municipalities to apply for the funding, and Cumberland expects to have someone working on the file shortly.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
