The Village of Cumberland is hosting a pair of online presentations and Q&A events, today and tomorrow, as it reviews options to protect trees on private property.
The Village adopted its Urban Forest Management Plan in 2020 that identified a significant loss of tree canopy cover, mainly due to land development.
The Village says protection bylaws can regulate trees in several different ways based on community preferences and values, and it wants to find what fits for Cumberland residents.
Some communities choose to require permits to remove many types of trees across all properties, while others focus on restricting removals or requiring replacement trees on large, forested properties or developing properties.
The session runs tonight from 7pm to 830pm, and tomorrow from 1230pm to 2pm.
