The Wesley Ridge Wildfire continues to grow, slightly since yesterday, but BC Wildfire Service says growth has been minimal and limited to steep backcountry terrain the past several days.

Personnel and equipment from 22 structural fire departments from across Vancouver Island as well as the Lower mainland and the Okanagan continue to defend properties and infrastructure in the Little Qualicum River Village & Park area and the north side of Cameron Lake.

As of midday Thursday, the human-caused fire, discovered last week, covered 571 hectares, up from 538 hectares on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a small fire discovered on Wednesday west of Campbell River was the result of a lightning strike.

BC Wildfire Service said as of yesterday the fire near John Hart Lake, was about 90 square metres and was under control.
