BC Hydro has provided an update on higher flows along sections of the Puntledge River.
Last night, crews began increasing spill from the Comox Dam from about 40 m3/s to approximately 100 m3/s. They are advising the public to stay away from the higher flows along all sections of the Puntledge River through the end of day Monday.
BC Hydro spokesperson Karla Louwers says their operations are guided by the short-term inflow forecast and current reservoir levels. Heavy inflows are expected today into Friday and are expected to remain above normal into next week. There is still some uncertainty in the forecast, and water release from the Comox Dam may be adjusted to be in the 50 m3/s to 100 m3/s range, depending on actual inflows. However, flows are expected to remain high and dangerous through the end of day Monday.
Temporary danger safety signage advising of the higher river flows is in place.
Louwers says they’ll provide an update on Monday when there is more certainty in next week’s forecast.
