Upgrades are coming to Cumberland Road. The City of Courtenay will be completing road improvements on Cumberland Road from Piercy Avenue to Grieve Avenue, starting today and lasting until Friday.
Work will take place between 7am and 7pm, weather permitting.
During construction hours, vehicle traffic will be restricted, with single lane alternating traffic in effect. Traffic control personnel will be on-site to assist all commuters and direct local traffic, pedestrians and cyclists through the work area.
This project was identified as a priority in Courtenay’s Cycling Network Plan.
It will create an active transportation corridor that connects to current and future cycling infrastructure on 5th Street, Willemar Ave, Piercy Avenue and 1st Street.

Cumberland Road will also see the addition of two flashing crosswalk locations with improvements expected to be complete in the fall.
