A massive earthquake that hit just off of Russia means a tsunami advisory for much of British Columbia.
Emergency Info BC says the quake registered in at 8.8, prompting the advisory for B.C. Tsunami Notification Zones A, B, C and D.
This includes Haida Gwaii, the north and central coast, and the northeast and outer west coast of Vancouver Island.
People are being asked to keep away from the shore lines to watch any waves as:
- Strong currents are likely/possible, stay away from the shore.
- Waves and currents can drown or injure people who are in the water.
- Currents at beaches and in harbours, marinas, bays, and inlets may be especially dangerous.
- you are asked to not go to the shore to observe currents or waves.
Shortly after 6:30 a.m. PST Wednesday morning, Emergency Info B.C. said that the advisory had ended for all of B.C.'s tsunami zones.
