Tree risk mitigation work is taking place in Courtenay's Simms Park today and tomorrow - and again next Thursday and Friday.
Trails near the work will be temporarily closed and pedestrians will be let through the work zone if safe to do so.
The scope of work includes pruning out deadwood and modifying trees to habitat/wildlife stems, which provides valuable foraging and nesting opportunities for multiple insect and bird species such as woodpeckers, nuthatches, and chickadees.
This work is in the vicinity of a Bald Eagle nest and has been timed to occur outside of the mating and nesting window of January to September.
