The Village of Cumberland has closed the northern portion of the trail Short n’ Curly indefinitely due to safety concerns related to the northwest bridge crossing.
The bridge contained significant rot, was structurally unstable, slick in wet weather, and had a difficult alignment.
The Village says that alternate bridge locations for a replacement crossing were sought, but due to challenging topography, no solutions could be found that would have been cost effective while respecting the environment.
A new bridge crossing was built on the southeast portion of the trail last summer, which, the village says will remain open to the public and will continue to receive maintenance services.
