Trail clearing, and construction is underway in Solport Park in Cumberland.
The work will continue intermittently over the coming weeks, with the goal of wrapping things up by mid-October.
Trails will be realigned to provide sustainable grades and will be made wider, with the goal of providing access for all non-motorized users.
A new trail will also be built to provide a loop pathway through the park.
Trail closures through Solport Park may be in effect during active work times and cautionary signs will be posted.
Trail users are encouraged to use the Westwood and Egremont connectors off Solport Street as a detour.
Trail enhancements were identified as a priority during a public outreach campaign in 2020 to determine future park projects.
As well, an existing trail will be revamped as a junior friendly bike route, and Cumberland is holding a naming contest for this section of trail.
The winning entry will have their trail name used on new park signs, and they will get to take a trail sign home.
The contest open to residents aged 10 and under and runs through to October 14th.
