The Town of Comox has received an official designation as a Bee City by Bee City Canada.
It recognizes the Town’s leadership and long-term commitment to pollinator protection and ecological stewardship.
The Bee City designation recognizes communities that are dedicated to protecting bees, butterflies, and other important insects by creating habitats, educating the public, and involving the community.
In a release the Town says the achievement highlights its ongoing work to support biodiversity and become more resilient to the effects of climate change.
Comox Mayor Nicole Minions says the recognition is an honour and a commitment that they are excited to be stepping into.
“Pollinators play a vital role in our environment and food systems, and we’re proud to join other municipalities leading the way in their protection,” she said.
This Town says the designation reinforces Comox's broader environmental goals, which are included in its Climate Action Plan.
The Bee City Action Plan for Comox outlines actions, public education, and habitat development, including initiatives such as showcasing community pollinator gardens, installing interpretive signage, celebrating pollinator week, and encouraging residents to grow pollinator-friendly gardens.
