The annual Comox Dragon Boat Festival is happening on Saturday, September 13.

Comox Marina Park will be hosting dragon boat racing as crews from across Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and the Lower Mainland, who will go head-to-head in fast-paced 200-metre sprints.

“The Comox Valley is becoming a real hot spot for dragon boat racing,” says Tom Arnold, President of VI Paddling.

“Earlier this year, a Comox Valley paddler, Tegan Probert, became the first Islander to be selected to represent Team Canada in the 16-and-under division at the World Dragon Boat Racing Championships. At the other end of the spectrum, Comox has dozens of dragon boaters in their 60s, 70s, and even 80s, and they are still going strong. So, we’re thrilled to host the Comox Dragon Boat Festival again this year, where athletes of all ages will have a chance to shine.”

Mayor Nicole Minions says the Town is looking forward to having people gather at Comox Marina Park for the event.

Minions says they’re proud to see Comox become a destination that brings people together in celebration, teamwork, and the spirit of sport.

Racing goes from about 9am to 430pm.

More information can be found at VI Paddling.
