The gates at the Comox Municipal Marina main dock are now open to the public.
The Town of Comox and the Comox Business In Action say it provides residents and visitors with greater access to the waterfront and one of the community’s most iconic spots.
“Opening the marina gates reflects our commitment to ensuring the marina remains a welcoming space for residents and visitors,” said Comox Mayor Nicole Minions.
“Our waterfront is one of Comox’s most loved areas, and expanding public access allows more people to experience it while supporting local business and enjoying our downtown."
The idea to allow public access was first raised during a Marina “Deep Dive” session hosted by the Comox BIA in late 2023.
It brought together more than 25 community partners and generated strong support for increasing opportunities for the public to connect with the waterfront.
The initiative was later submitted to Council as a priority through the BIA’s contributions to the Town’s new Economic Development Strategy, adopted in 2024.
BIA President Pete Chambers says Downtown Comox and the Marina are deeply connected, and opening the marina and docks to the public strengthens that relationship.
“We’re grateful for the Town’s collaboration on this initiative, which supports our small businesses, enhances the visitor experience, and brings even more life to the heart of our community,” he said.
The winter schedule, running from mid-September to April 30, has the gates open from 730am to 4pm, while the summer has it open from 7am to 8pm, starting May 1st.
Both winter and summer schedules operate seven days a week.
The Town encourages visitors to enjoy the marina responsibly and to follow posted signage and safety guidance while on the docks.
