In case you missed it over the holidays, the Town of Comox and the union representing about 70 municipal workers have ratified a new three-year collective agreement.
The new agreement was ratified by CUPE 556 members the Monday before Christmas, having earlier been approved by Comox Council.
Chief Administrative Officer Jordan Wall says the agreement is fair, supports the town’s employees, and remains consistent with other recent settlements in the region.
“We appreciate the commitment and collaborative efforts of the negotiating team throughout this process, and we’re pleased to reach an agreement that benefits employees and the community we serve.”
The union thanked the Town of Comox for the open and transparent discussions that made this agreement possible.
CUPE President Sonya Jenssen says their members and the town share the same goal in providing the community the crucial public services families and neighbours depend on every day.
She adds the new deal will help workers continue to live and thrive in the community they serve with pride.
General wage increases are included in each year of the new agreement:
- April 1, 2025 — 5%
- April 1, 2026 — 3.5%
- April 1, 2027 — 5%
The new agreement replaces the previous collective agreement, which expired in March 2025, and also includes increases to potential earnings for those who are on short-term disability.
The Town of Comox delivers municipal services to approximately 15,000 residents, including parks and recreation, public works (roads, sewer, and other infrastructure), bylaw compliance, development services, building inspection, and other essential community supports.
