Anglers and residents will have a chance to weigh in on the future of recreational salmon fishing at a town hall in Campbell River this weekend.
The B.C. Wildlife Federation is hosting an in-person session Saturday, April 11th, at the Campbell River Sportsplex to explain proposed changes to Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Salmon Allocation Policy.
The federation says the proposed changes could reduce public access to salmon and affect recreational fishing opportunities across British Columbia, along with potential impacts on local economies and conservation efforts.
Organizers say the town hall will outline what changes are being considered, how they could affect anglers, and why a science-based and balanced approach is important for long-term salmon management.
The session will also provide information on how anglers can share feedback and engage with Members of Parliament and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
The B.C. Wildlife Federation says additional town halls are being planned in other communities across the province, with more dates to be announced.
