The Town of Comox is getting ready to celebrate a major milestone - its 80th anniversary.
A full week of events is planned for January 12th to 18th, marking eight decades since Comox was first incorporated as a village in 1946. It later became an official Town in 1967.
The anniversary will include community activities, historical exhibits, and opportunities for residents to share memories and stories.
The Town says the celebration also recognizes the Pentlatch, E’iksan, Sahtloot, Sasitla, and K’ómoks First Nation as the original stewards of the region.
The main event takes place January 14th, the official anniversary date, with an evening Community Open House at the Comox Archives and Museum and the Pearl Ellis Art Gallery.
The celebration runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and will feature remarks from Mayor Nicole Minions, tours, displays, family activities, and cupcakes to mark the occasion.
Ahead of the celebrations, the Comox Archives and Museum will open a special exhibit called 80 Years: A Comox Time Capsule, highlighting life in the mid-1940s through historic images, newspapers, and stories from the community’s early days.
Residents are also invited to share their own photos and memories online as part of the anniversary.
