The Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock reaches Campbell River today as its 14-day journey down Vancouver Island continues.

The team began its approximately 1,200-kilometre ride in Port Alice on Saturday and has since travelled through Port Hardy, Port McNeill, Woss and Sayward.

After cycling from Port McNeill through Woss to Sayward yesterday, the riders will leave Sayward this morning and continue south before arriving in Campbell River later on Tuesday.

Residents are encouraged to watch for the team and cheer on the riders as they enter the community.

The tour returns to the road on Wednesday, travelling from Campbell River through Black Creek and into the Comox Valley, with stops in Courtenay and Comox.

On Thursday, the team will leave the Comox Valley through Union Bay as the journey continues south.

Two local riders are participating this year: Jordan Koster of the Courtenay RCMP and Campbell River community rider Lacey Emery.

Tour de Rock brings together police officers, firefighters, paramedics, military personnel and community riders to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Funds support pediatric cancer research and programs such as Camp Goodtimes for children and families affected by cancer.

The tour concludes Friday, October 2, in Victoria.
