Thousands of first responders paid their respects Thursday in Burnaby for a fallen RCMP officer.
Constable Shaelyn Yang was stabbed to death on Tuesday morning while responding to a call at a homeless camp.
Police, firefighters, and paramedics lined the route between Vancouver General Hospital and Burnaby Hospital as Yang's body was being transported.
Last night, an escort of first responder vehicles left Burnaby Hospital to Surrey. This escort will be followed by one more procession this afternoon from Surrey to Richmond.
In a release, the RCMP says these processions have allowed partner agencies from across the Lower Mainland to honour Constable Yang and show support for the Burnaby RCMP, while ensuring Constable Yang is accompanied as she makes her way to her final resting place.
A 37 year old man has been charged in Constable Yang's death. He remains in
police custody in hospital.
